Challenges

Register for the AWS Challenge and explore AWS artificial intelligence and machine learning tools using computer vision, natural language processing, speech recognition, text-to-speech, and machine translation. To qualify, use one or more of these AWS services: Amazon Comprehend, Amazon Transcribe, Amazon Polly, Amazon Lex, Amazon Translate, and Amazon Rekognition. Successful challengers will capitalize on AWS Lambda or Amazon SageMaker to turn their ideas into action. The winning project will earn awesome bragging rights by bringing something useful and original to campus life.

The title really says it all, doesn’t it? If you’re planning on doing a project that’s mainly software, you’re in the running for this award. This can be an app, a website, a game, a program, or whatever! Feel free to follow wherever your heart takes you in the world of coding and scripting!

At CUhackit, we’ll have (at the very least) the MLH hardware lab at full force. But, if you’ve got your own aspirations that require other hardware, feel free to BYOH! The winner of this category will be the team or individual with the best overall hack predicated on hardware.

Since you’re smart enough to come to CUhackit, we know you’re pretty brainy already. But if what you’ve thought up is out-of-this-world-ridiculous-but-just-might-work level of cool, this is the category for you. Warning: side effects may include increased blood pressure and intense euphoria.

One of CUhackit’s major values is inclusivity. After all, isn’t bringing different groups of people together for the creation of new ideas the whole point of a hackathon? The winner of this category will be the team with the best hack for helping people who need it!

We at CUhackit take pride in encouraging hacking at all experience levels! If you're a bit of a rookie hacker, a novice builder, or an amateur creator, this one's for you. The Beginner Hacker Award will be given to a team of newcomers who show great character and a passion to learn.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hackathon is a 24-hour invention marathon in which students from different disciplines collaborate in small teams to create solutions to real problems. We provide the resources and mentorship necessary to fully immerse participants in the design and development of their ideas. A hackathon is ultimately a space that empowers participants in the design process through creativity and hands-on learning.

CUhackit will be hosted in the Watt Family Innovation Center at Clemson University. The facility features a large commonspace for announcements and community hacking, classrooms for workshops, individual rooms for team concentration, and a quiet space for sleep and relaxation. In-house creative spaces, such as the Clemson Makerspace and Immersive Space will be open and available for students to explore and utilize virtual reality, 3D printing, and other resources.
